Plasma Physics Laboratory

Institute of Physics and Biophysics, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia

Contact: Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Vítězslav Straňák, Ph.D.

One of the research goals of the laboratory is the study and preparation of thin functional layers using low-temperature plasma. These are layers with a thickness of about 100 nm, which significantly affect the properties of the surface without changing or damaging the base material. Typical examples are hard layers with a protective mechanical function, electrically conductive or insulating surfaces, semiconductor structures, photoactive films and others. In addition to this spectrum, the laboratory has also focused on research into modern nanostructured materials for biotechnological applications and sensor technology in recent years. This involves the deposition of active layers that can bind more complex molecules. Such materials can then be used either in detection systems or as carriers for bound bioactive substances.
